Shelane's Run

08:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • $30 adult/$10 kids
  • Fairfax, VA
  • Joanne Bryant

The 2nd Annual Shelane's Run 5K and 1K Fun Run is being held at the Fairfax Government Center on October 21, 2017. Shelane's Run is the first and ONLY road race in VA focused on maternal mental health. We lost our beautiful daughter, Shelane to postpartum depression (PPD) on June 12, 2015. Since that day, we have made it our mission to help raise awareness and resources for postpartum mood disorders. Maternal mental health disorders like PPD, are very common, impacting 1 in 5 women (or approximately 20%) during pregnancy or one year post delivery. Unfortunately, as in my daughter's case, 20% of maternal deaths are due to suicide. This condition is treatable and preventable. Shelane, was a police officer for Fairfax County, a mother of three, very active in her community and an avid runner for all causes. Shelane's love of her family, community and country was clearly her passion. Last year we helped raise over $27,000 for Postpartum Support International at our very first event! This year we have partnered with Postpartum Support VA in hopes of reaching out to local families and helping those right here in our own community to raise funding and awareness for postpartum mood disorders. Go to shelanesrun.org for more info.
